About this tour
The Garifuna community comprises only 8% of the total population in Belize. Despite being a small minority, the United Nations has recognized their unique culture for its language, music, and dance. Originally from St. Vincent island, the Garifuna people are descendants of enslaved Africans who intermarried with indigenous islanders. After an unsuccessful rebellion against the British, the Garifuna people migrated to Belize, where they continue to preserve their culture and traditions.
